Ok, what the hell??? I dusted off the ole’ guitar, tuned it up, and busted out a little 12 bar blues just for the hell of it. Feeling the nostalgia, I jammed a little bit for the kids, and then handed off the guitar to one of the little ones, while they jammed on tupperware, toy panflutes, and my 6 strings. Wanting to brush up on some songs I haven’t practiced in a few years, I hit the old reliable websites. Namely, Harmony Central and the OnLine Guitar Archive. All I can say is, WTF!?!? I’ve been out of the loop for just a few years and the almighty OLGA has been shut down by the f’ing “man”.
Ok, I get it. I am not one to believe or promote the fact that the artist creating an original piece of music should not be given credit or paid royalties for their hard work. However, there does exist a need for people to be able to practice and improve their own abilities in their musical endeavours. It has been said many times that by standing on the shoulders of giants, one is able to see the greater picture of reality. So, if that is the case, should I or my kids be cut off from examining music that has been written by so called “giants”?
I think that a free and easily accessible method for viewing, and practicing such music can only strengthen an enable future generations. To hell with the lawyers and other highly paid riff raff who would see my children musically mal-nourished just so someone can make a few extra bucks!
Viva la revolucion!!! Or, something like that!
What a pisser!!!
