I’m not sure if this is part of what could be considered my workout log, or just some thoughts on the development of the self, but I feel I need to reflect on some things. Those things being this mysterious “Burpee Challenge” that’s been mentioned in some of my workout logs.

Today I did 234 burpees, even though today is a scheduled rest day in my current workout regime. I had planned on doing about 600, but that may have been unrealistic. I have about 600 planned for tomorrow as well. That is also probably unrealistic. So, why have I decided to do 1200 burpees in the course of a weekend. Well, let’s discuss the Burpee Challenge. A Morning With Dr. Tabata

Posted by Eric

I had mentioned in my previous post that I would be keeping track of my workouts for the sake of reflection. Also, if anyone gets any ideas from them, or cares to share ideas, that’s cool too.

Yesterday’s workout consised of a cardio kickboxing class (during which I realized how much my crescent kicks SUCK!) followed by my kendo class, the first part of which was done interval training style.

For today, since I have very little free time on Tuesdays, I went to the park and busted out some Tabata intervals. Here’s the skinny:
4 rounds X 8 exercises. 20 seconds per exercise, 10 second rest. The exercises I did were: Read the rest of this entry »

I spent most of the day yesterday sitting in front of the computer not really doing anything. Had plenty of work to do, but nothing got done. Now sometimes a person just needs a day off, so it’s no big deal, but I really find that if I get in a good workout, especially a cardio workout in the morning, that my effectiveness at my computer work improves.

I think I’m going to start keeping track of some of my workouts on this site, so I can look back and see where improvements, injuries, or anything else occured, and track progress. Since I know one or 2 of my friends will be reading this, it will be extra motivation to keep up the intensity. Don’t want to seem like a wuss, eh? Anyway here’s today: Read the rest of this entry »

Kick Ass Parkour Video

Posted by Eric

Whoa! Look at that. 2 posts in less than a month. Hey, I might just end up updating this blog regularly some day. I wanted to share one of my favorite parkour videos from youtube. I’ve been working on adding some parkour elements to my workouts, because I think it is a great addition to my martial arts training. If you don’t know what parkour is all about, here’s an idea, though I’m not yet as dexterous as these guys. It really challenges your stamina, agility, grace, and prompts you to push past any fear you may have. Enjoy!

A recent discussion with my kendo instructor lead to a point where I brought up one of my personal beliefs, that being the fact that sometimes what is perceived as a negative aspect of a person’s personality can sometimes be useful in the right circumstances. I feel that recognizing our own “inner nature” as some call it is very important and that sometimes a trait that may commonly be considered needing of changing or removing, is just fine when left as is and utilized for what it is. Specifically, I was speaking about my own quickness to anger.

Anyone who knows me well knows that I do tend to be rather hot tempered at times. Those who have known me well for many, many years understand this even more so. In our society that so elevates the virtues of what I would call a “prefab personality”, anger is often a four letter word. However, I’ve found that there have been times in my own life where it has completely saved my bacon. My sensei’s opinion was that anger stemmed from fear. Not considering myself a particularly fearful person, I took a few days to ponder this, and here is my conclusion about the nature of fear, and it’s relationship to anger.
